2020 Poynton Bonfre & Fireworks - CANCELLED
After much discussion and consideration, Poynton Round Table are sad to announce that the Poynton Bonfire 2020 will not be taking place.
As a charity, which hosts the bonfire to raise money solely for local causes, we have been closely monitoring the COVID19 situation, government guidance, the risk of further waves of the pandemic in the UK and have held off making this decision as long as possible. The health and wellbeing of the thousands of visitors who attend our bonfire each year is very important to us.
Our small team of volunteers organise and undertake the Bonfire in their free time, with the monies received during the bonfire used to fund future years’ bonfires and to support local charities. The cost of complying with the health and safety requirements of the new COVID19 regulations to keep our visitors safe and the threat of further lockdowns as we move into winter, puts our event at a serious risk of suffering a significant loss. Such a loss would severely impact our ability to run our bonfires in future years.
The cancellation of the 2020 Bonfire means that our charitable income this year will be severely reduced. We regularly help over 30 local causes each year, which include schools, clubs of all kinds, older age group clubs and activities, health charities, individual sponsorships. The good news is that you can still support us this year, through our donations page at: https://justgiving.com/campaign/PoyntonBonfire2020 and assist us in continuing our support of local causes this year.
